Optic Disc and visual Field Defects in Glaucomatous Patients

Abstract
To estimate the correlation of visual field defects and optic disc in glaucoma, central visual field examination with program 30-2 of Humphrey Field Analyzer 630 and optic disc examination with a direct ophthalmoscope and/or a Hruby lens were
carried
out for 67 patients(121eyes) with NTG(normal tension glaucoma) and HTG(high tension glaucoma). The HTG patients were subdevided into 33 patients(63 eyes) of POAG(primary open angle glaucoma) and 23 patients(39 eyes) of PACG(primary angle-closure
glaucoma) according to the cause. MD of NTG was 5.52¡¾5.46dB and that of HTG was 10.64¡¾10.65dB, on the other hand, PSD of NTG was 5.89¡¾7.06dB and that of HTG was 4.70¡¾3.44dB. It means that the pattern of field defect of NTG differ form that of
HTG.
Different pattern of visual field loss in HTG and LTG would imply different mechanisms of damage to the optic nerve in the two conditions.
In general, among global indices MD(mean devation) tended to be more highly correlated with every factors of glaucomatous disc findings in all groups than CPSD(corrected pattern standard deviation) or PSD(pattern standard deviation). However, CPS
in NTG
was also highly correlated with glaucomatous disc findings.
